Dear Alan,

>This raises a question of ethics and social justice. At the same time
>they are paying themselves that, they are talking to the FSU about the
>need for restraint, the need for pain, the need for restructure and
>modernisation.

>There are some cynical bastards in this world - NICE FOR SOME!

Passionate response but take care with the language;-) Alan ....I once
used the term 'psi--ing' in the wind...;-) for 'pis****' in the wind and
got myself excommunicated...having said that here what a journalist wrote
about a company in the UK some of whose staff I have coached (and they
were great people) QUOTE...

"COMPANY bosses at Consignia spent £15,000 on a Christmas Party hours after
cutting 30,000 jobs.

The Post Office firm's top executives and guests enjoyed a champagne
reception at London's exclusive Liberal Club.

It came four hours after chief executive John Roberts warned the firm was
planning cuts of 30,000 jobs. Unions say their actions, "beggar belief."
Mr Roberts told the House of Commons Trade and Industry select committee
the cuts would have to be made. A spokesman for the Communications Workers
Union said, "This beggars belief. At a time when Consignia is losing vast
sums of money the executives are living it up. "You need the skin of a
rhino to wine and dine high-fliers while you are threatening to consign
30,000 people out the dole queue. It is incredibly insensitive at this
critical time."

But the company chief executive defended the bash, reports the Sunday
Mirror. "It was a reception and dinner held for a wide range of
opinion-formers," Mr Roberts said. "It was part of our normal corporate
entertainment and lobbying of MPs and individual customers." The cost of
the event dwarfs the £13,000 starting salary of a postman. The company is
losing £1.5 million each day. A spokesman for Consignia told Ananova, "It
cost £15,000 not £20,000. It is a normal corporate way of meeting opinion
formers. We have done this ....."

And of course, this is the tip of the tip of the iceberg.

I have a great deal of respect for where I deduce you to be coming from.
What do you think is the cure for this sickness?

Best wishes to all 'down under;-)'

Andrew
