Sketches LO27683

Dear Learners,

Sketch books, notebooks and drafts.

" But in addition to this, the very best in art is too spiritual to be
given directly to the senses; it must be born in the beholders
imagination, though it must be begotten by the work of art. It is due to
this that the sketches of the great masters are often more effective than
their finished paintings." Arthur Schopenhauer

One of the sketchy personal research projects I have undertaken but yet to
complete is a review of the phenomenology of time. Mmmm;-) Many of us I am
sure have in some fuzzy way been fascinated about the nature of that great
thing which is nothing, that great backing sheet to the canvas of our
lived regressions and progressions. How fascinating!

A dear friend of mine is thinking about re-creating a domain for people to
come together and 'parler' about the world of lived experiences. As soon
as I learned this my head became crammed with a jostle of possibilities,
some memories, some things surrounding me and some seeming projections
thrown to the future.. 'what was' 'what is' and 'what ifs', and each 'what
if' falls into another in the imagination. I often think thinking is
'quantum' in its basic activity, not a 'linear progression' but also
'leaps' at some level of activity. Like a child skipping for joy at its
best, never just some tedious perambulation.. and how I detest the sound
and image of ranks marching in 'close step'.

" What pushes cognitive activity forward, i.e., pushes it out of one
present moment into the next, are the laws of physics that govern the
physical substance of the brain and its evolution through physical time.
These laws, together with the physical structure existing in the present,
push the activity forward so that the present is followed by a present
that is taken to be a causal explanation of the previous present. Thus the
forward movement of physical time is responsible for the backward movement
of psychological time. Thus the purpose of cognition (thinking) is to
compensate for the forward asymmetry of physical time with the backward
asymmetry of psychological time. Notice, (finally), that this indicated
that the classical dichotomy of mind and body rests ultimately on the
difference between two directions of time." From: Michael Leyton,
Symmetry Causality Mind, Representation as Explanation, Temporality from
Atemporality, 4.8.1 That passage I only came upon yesterday. When it had
settled among other sketches gleaned from the near 700 sometimes to me
very complex pages it raised the image of a wave, the way it works, or
appears to work, or the human heart, the way it works, or appears to work.

It also indicated to me that all human projects are in some 'fielded' way
;-) sketches, some sketches seem, through nested hierarchies, to be more
than they are, an elegant description of a work of art is if ever there
was one. I have not met the CEO of GE BUT if it is true that he sanctions
that his henchmen/women cut either 'off' or 'out' the bottom 10%
'performing people' in that company he is NOT running a 'company', he is
'de facto' running a form of fearful concentration camp. And I wish to
parler with this 'idiot' man. Perhaps a 'minion' of his might convey the
invitation. I will talk to them of 'suicide'.. in the PUBLIC domain. I
want to ask what part of HIS in-corporate (sic) body-cum-anatomy he
intends to lop 10% off of each 'annum' so that he followers can see
clearly, transparently the walking of his walking;-) talking. Minions once
wrote for a Queen to utter, "annus horribilis" the seven and a half
percent ;-) I'd 'lop off' for the CEO of GE is the first "n".. and I hope
he is not offended by the 'cut'.
