 Hi Roxanne ,

I agree with your comments - I previously worked in a company which
suffered a series of 'downsizings' i.e. one / year for several years - net
result was that the 'surviving' employees aligned their value system 100%
to their direct reporting mgr ( who had the biggest influence over who
stayed/went ) and this led to surreal dept level mgr conversations along
the lines of....'Keith - I agree , we are damaging the bigger
business/customers/etc. by operating in this way but if I don't do as I am
told my boss will sack me next time round' - the resulting high-fear /
low-risk / low-creativity approaches adopted cost us dear as a company...
I was 'fortunate' enough never to be targetted but when I left voluntarily
( despite enjoying my job the human carnage was too distressing ) I was
amazed at how 'free' I felt in my new company - a bit like running after
taking off lead boots and it gave my career a huge mid-life boost which is
still going strong 4 years later !

Hmm......maybe it worked out well for me ?? Will quit while I am
ahead......:-)
