Replying to LO28118 --

Dear List,

With respect to the quotes I referenced in LO28118...

It may be obvious since Annie Dillard's writing is unique, but just in
case, the following is her writing not mine. It's from her book "Holy The
Firm," and is the second part of the quote which I referenced with respect
for our search for perfection.

--- begin quote ----

   "There have been generations which
   remembered, and generations which forgot;

There has never been a generation of whole men
and women who lived well even for one day.

Yet some have imagined well, with honesty
and art, the detail of such a life, and have
described it with such grace, that we mistake
vision for history, dream for description,

And fancy that life has devolved"

--- end quote ---

Sorry for any confusion.

Take care,

John Dicus
