Greetings dear Jan,
I looked up the meaning of "Beschräkung", but could not find it. However,
my Deutch-Afrikaans dictionaty is not that good. It did have the word
"Beschränkung" which means "beperking" in Dutch and Afrikaans. In English
it means limitation.
So what Goethe seems to say, in the context of the 7Es (seven
essentialities of creativity), is that in spareness ("quantity-limit") the
master is shown first.
This is most significant for me because in terms of the 7Es, spareness
among them tells best for me that we have to evolve in our (at least)
tacit knowing of all the 7Es. That is why spareness point to the LRC (Law
of Requisite Complexity).
In other post modern words, Goethe, seems to say that the master shows how
a certain level of complexity is necessary to step into the very next
level of complexity rather than trying to jump (skip) several levels of
complexity. This he did describe (two centuries ago!) with his concept
"Steigerung".
With care and best wishes,
