Replying to LO29573--
Dear PETER,
Thank you for a very sharp question! It made me stand up in ovation!
Here is my attempted answer: A learning organisation lacks the mechanisms
and the climate that frustrate the 'learning instinct'.
'Learning instinct': This is a combination of various tendencies we notice
around us, some of which may be in opposition to each other (not a very
well-formulated concept, I agree). In my understanding, it separates (not
completely!) into two broad sets: 1. tendency to give form to that which
is formless (e.g., fixating time by hours, days, etc. Modernism?) and 2.
tendency to render formless that which has been formed (e.g.,
demonstrating the relativity of time to speed, culture, etc.
Postmodernism?). Different adaptations and combinations of these
tendencies give us different breeds of the 'learning instinct'.
This is not an answer I believe in. [Please notice that believing in
anything will be counter to the 'learning instinct!'] I am only proposing
it to generate further conversations.
