[Host's Note: this is a remarkable program in it's scope and because of
the special people on the faculty. I have actually paid my own hard-earned
money to attend this program and consider it excellent. To get an idea of
some of the material, see http://www.dialogonleadership.org and look for
the interview with Brian Arthur. Any LO readers who would like to get more
of a personal reference on this program, please feel free to contact me

LEADERSHIP FOR PROFOUND CHANGE: A workshop offered by the Global Institute
for Responsible Leadership
May 69, 2003, The Warren Center, Ashland, Massachusetts
The most pressing challenges leaders face today require innovative
thinking and collaboration across traditional boundaries--departments,
organizations, sectors, and cultures. Yet we are entrenched in rigid
patterns of behavior that limit our ability to transcend these boundaries
and work together to effect deep change. To bring about the level of
transformation needed in our organizations and our world right now, we
need a new way of learning and of leading--one not limited to reflecting
the patterns of the past but one that tunes into the possibilities of the
future.
PROGRAM DESCRIPTION
The Global Institute is pleased to offer its first program -- "Leadership
for Profound Change: Sensing and Actualizing Emerging Futures." This
four-day experiential workshop for leaders at all levels introduces a
leadership methodology for sensing and facilitating profound change both
within organizations and across societal systems. The workshop is based on
findings from interviews with 130 thought leaders in the areas of
creativity, high performance, and leadership, plus learnings from more
than 30 years of experience with scenario-based strategy formation and
generative leadership development.
Learn the basic tools and techniques of the "U process"--a method for
individual and collective leadership to unlock deep reserves of
creativity. Core to this process are seven capacities, including
"sensing," or seeing the present from a new perspective; "presencing," or
accessing our innate wisdom to identify and bring into being a new
reality; and "prototyping," or designing and testing alternative solutions
that shift the system. Ample opportunity for small-group practice in
applying these capabilities to your organizationšs challenges is provided.
In addition, you will have the opportunity to work with peers and develop
networks that can support you in implementing the new practices once you
return to your organization.
ANTICIPATED VALUE
--Walk away with a leadership method that you can begin applying at all
levels within your leadership situation.
--Develop your personal leadership capacity by learning to connect with
inner sources of knowledge and creation.
--Practice engaging in multistakeholder collaborations.
--Gain new insights into your own organizational challenges through
interactions with other participants.
WHO SHOULD ATTEND
This program is intended for people committed to deepening their capacity
as leaders in both formal and informal leadership roles. In addition, the
attendee mix is designed to maximize cross-company and cross-sector
learning and relationship building. We recommend participating in pairs or
teams to increase the potential long-term value of this experience for
your organization.
