I think you are saying that computers have a great levelling effect upon
organizations in which they serve. I agree. In fact any technology has the
potential to take the best practices of great organizations and instill
them in smaller ones. This is the essence of "off-the-shelf" software
systems.
Show me an organization that does not use a spreadsheet today. Such an
organization is very small. Try to find an organization that uses a
typewriter for anything other than filling out government forms.
If you kind people will accept my premise, then should we not try to embed
LO practices in computer software systems to encourage their propagation
through various organizations? Perhaps even more important, should we
investigate which such systems exist today that encourage (versus
discourage) such LO practices?
