I respectfully disagree. A fact is a truth or existence. To my mind
acceptance has nothing to do with it. It is a fact that the planet
Pluto existed before we could detect it, and before we accepted the
early assertions of its existence. Perhaps it would be useful to use
this word "assertion" in many of the statement similar to yours, to
wit: "... a[n] ASSERTION does not become a fact until it has been ..."
PROVEN (caps for emphasis only)
This might clarify certain disparities in belief we have encountered.
