James--you and Rick gave some excellent examples. Recently,
corresponding with an Indonesian LO list reader, I mentioned sending
something to him via "snail mail." It took several e-mails for me to
explain what I meant (and we both felt a little silly by the time we
finally 'communicated').

I am also amused by the ethnocentrism that pops out on this list (I'm
guilty, too). The remarkable thing is how well we communicate in this
global list despite the obstacles of culture and language.
