I'm really valuing this thread... it is the most focused and real thread
I've read on Learning-org for a while... The issue of the individual and
their growth is one of the prime focuses of a learning organization, just
like the entire body will be healthy, flourish and grow when all its
organs and cells are healthy!

Responding to Scott's thoughts:

>I am ultimately worried that, as we attempt to approach perfection in the
>workplace, we may be paying a terrible price in individual intellectual
>freedom.

This is the end result when the organization's perfection is the goal of
the process, the place where most organizations focus. When the
individual is valued and the growth of the individual is of prime
importance, we see the workplace thrive!

In an organization that has reached a certain level of development as a
learning organization, it becomes impossible for the organization to
develop a goal that is anti-people! People from such an organization are
in great demand in the marketplace! As soon as the organization slips
from that level of development, as soon as it forgets the people, then the
people will leave and the organization will start to crumble.

Just like the body, a true learning organization is very sensitive to the
health of all its members. As soon as some get 'sick' then unless action
is taken quickly, the organization will start to sicken and eventually
die. Some organization will survive for decades due to inertia, but will
eventually be reborn as a whole new organization, or die.

Just yesterday I was told there are too few people who can sense beauty
and have compassion! Keep it coming!
