Replying to LO14896 --

Greetings.

1) I think a "phat dude" is a dude who is replete with attitude, i.e., a
dude with a 'tude, but I am not sure.

2) "Catchin' air" originated with surfing. It evolved from the early
days of surfing, from "catchin' a wave." In the early days of surfing,
when large and long boards were used, aerial maneuvers were not feasible,
nor advisable. As surfing evolved and aerial maneuvers began to be used
extensively, "catchin' air" came into use to refer to maneuvers in which
the a large portion of the surfboard came out of the water. It's use has
since been expanded, as our host noted, to include aerial maneuvers on a
variety of entertainment-oriented conveyances, such as skates,
skateboards, bikes, and so on.

3) "Extreme" refers to persons and/or maneuvers that are well outside the
capabilities of the average person.

4) I believe that the correct spelling is berm, if is referring to what I
think it is. A berm is any raised edge of a course that is used for any
number of sports. The pile of dirt around the outside of a turn on a
moto-cross (off-road motorcycling) course is the usage that I remember
from the farthest back in the dim reaches of my memory.

I hope this is a total rush for you. It was way cool writing it.

Mark.
