Mattias and Peter raised some interesting and insightful issues regarding
the challenges of managing knowledge.

We are finding that organisational understanding of the true purpose and
value of knowledge is still quite immature. Also we are finding that - as
with many new management concepts - people are becoming obsessed with the
mechanical / bureacratic issues - in this case they are those of
structuring and codifying knowledge. The real problem that we are working
on with clients are

1. how to do we get people to recognise the value of knowledge
2. how do we accelerate the sharing of knowledge
3. how do we stimulate the strategic imagination to exploit the newly
acquired knowledge
4. how do we create simple processes for the capturing of knowledge - there
is an immense reluctance to make daily entries to the knowledge base
5. given these difficulties how do we ensure the knowledge base is kept up to
date
6. how do we encourage people to accept that knowledge distribution is
everyone's job rather than a specific role for a content manager or knowledge
manager
7. how do we encourage firms to move beyond accounting based measures of
intellectual capital to a much deeper and richer understanding of the value
of knowledge
8 how do we extend the debate about knowledge management bewyond a discussion
of which technologies to use?

Mattias, I hope these thoughts help - feel free to contact me if you want
further explanation of these points.

Good luck with your research and thesis.
