Assumptions - precognitive, basic, passive, elemental in nature

Mental Models - cognitive, developmental, chosen, advanced in nature.

Example:

Assumption = people wear clothes.
Mental Model = what color tie shall I wear for this occasion?

BTW, the above are not "definitions" per se, but attempts at
explanation.
