Empathy strikes me as a very important characteristic for anyone to have.

Are you holding the assumption that leader is a synonym for manager? I
certainly don't. I believe that everyone in an organization can and
should practice leadership.

It's also been my experience that the variance in personality traits
within a sex is greater than the variance in traits across the sexes.
