The single most important activity for the board is to develop and sell is
an agreed upon accepted understood purpose. It needs to be understood at
all levels and everyone should understand how their daily work fits into
that purpose.
The next important set of decisions is for the top level to provide a way
for everyone to know how well they are carrying out that purpose.
Purpose can overcome enormous difficulties and pull diverse people together.
It is most often not done because it s very difficult but successful
organizations have enduring purpose.
