Replying to LO19083 --

I recently wrote about my dilemma as the head of a provincial education
department in South Africa. My concern is to facilitate the development
of 1 2000 institutions with 1 1 million learners so that they can
confidently take charge of their own development.

We are not a rich country, and we have had the nightmare experience of
apartheid with its destructive consequences for education for the majority
of our schools. We need to find ways to transcend the past and build an
education system that will help to secure the life-chances of our nation.

I have received a few replies (thanks), but it is clear that LO has not
really touched the world of education as yet. This seems to be a pity.

Does anyone have bright ideas about how I might encourage real debate on
schools as learning organsiations? I believe that this debate is important
for my country's developmental path.

Thanks
