Dear Ian,

I agree with you that no one should ever be forced into a wilderness
experience -- or any similar kind of leadership training. I also agree
with you that management teams often need something different. In
expanding our program to faculty and staff for development, there are
clearly some unique factors and they are unique to the various groups.
For example, I do not think the same kind of experience is what our
management team needs as much as they need some time and space to reflect.
They "climb mountains" all the time and do a pretty good job of working
together, but reflecting on the process and experience is a luxury -- when
I think it should be a necessity. They're experience would be designed
very differently from the one I described. Harriett.
