Replying to LO23525 --

Thanks to those who have responded to my learning about money as a measure
of success.

Please understand that:
1. When I got this lesson in life I was very much of the mind that money
is filthy lucre and that those who obsessed over it were somewhat less
evolved than superior beings such as myself. [That's intended to be
ironic, in case you might have missed it.]

2. One lesson I learned was not to judge others' motives too quickly
even from "obvious" behavior.

3. I really liked the way Eugene Taurman explained: "It is values and
understanding the systems and society's expectations that make socially
responsible organizations. Profit motive is not the issue but it does show
how well an organization meets it's own purpose." However, I feel sorry
for people and organizations whose ONLY measure of their worth is money.
As several of you wrote, it is not a very good measure and as Hudi
Podolsky writes "It is mostly the measure used by people who don't know
you, who measure the results of your work at a distance and usually
anonymously."

I wonder how many evils have been loosed in the world simply because we
don't take the time to figure out how to measure what we really want to
measure?
