Replying to LO28947 --
Dear All,
Thinking about 'transparency' or 'redundancy', bring a few ideas. In the
past I have suggested that the way to empower and motivate workers should
involve Employee Share Ownership Programs, Open Book Management, and
Productivity Gain Sharing.
ESOP gives a sense of ownership and a say at shareholder meetings (who
better knows what is happening in a company than the workers ?).
Open Book Management (including access to the balance sheet) gives
'transparency', and allows workers to 'keep their eyes on the ball'.
Productivity Gains Sharing can create a genuine desire 'to improve'
amongst workers.
In previous posts I have suggested that a well written management system
(based on ISO9000) can allow workers to essentially self-manage, and
remove reliance from managers who may or may not have the companies
interests at heart (there are a lot of self-serving managers about).
The management system itself is empowering, and this fact becomes very
evident when consulting with private companies, some managers react verty
badly to having their 'good oil' published and accessible to all.
