Jim, I began many years ago using the "skillful discussion" protocols in
"The Learning Organization Fieldbook" in a number of organizational
settings, including health care, and while I have myself contributed to
that toolbox (and would be happy to provide references off-line), I have
not found anything more fundamentally useful. While I appreciate the
offerings of other list members (DeBono, etc.), it seems to me that these
are fundamentally techniques and tools, while the protocols have more to
do with creating the conditions, values, and shared understanding under
which discussion can take place.
