Democracy, ratings, elders and LO LO30124

Indeed, it works much like the stockmarket doesn't it? Do anything of
future significance with short term costs and watch your ratings plummet.
Do something stupid, like generate industrial employment by letting people
poisoning the environment, then you can get more votes (until they start
choking or whatever -- but by that time it will be another guy's problem
and ratings anyway.)

So bring in the elders? Or will they just say "screw'em" and bring up the
pension payments they don't have to pay for? (;-)
