Dear Orglearners,

My name is Douglas Johnson and I am currently enrolled in the Masters of
Organizational Management course at Antioch University in Santa Barbara
California. Using analogy's and interactive models, I plan to develope a
curriculum for 5th and 6th grade students oriented around systems
thinking. Any help would be greatly apreciated. In particular, I am
requesting information on learning organization activities, concepts, or
interactive models that 5th and 6th graders might be able to grasp onto,
and become interested in. At the bottom of this email I have included a
section of my proposal. Thank you so much for your help my fellow
organizational learners,

Douglas Johnson

I believe that children will benefit considerably from the fundamental
concepts introduced by the systems model. The lessons to be learned from
systems theory apply to both young and old, however I have yet to be
informed of an introductory systems thinking based curriculum specifically
tailored to children. The conceptual models and diagrams offered by
systems thinkers makes translating their ideas into a language children
may understand and enjoy, a project worthy of further exploration.

It is important for children to become more aware of themselves as apart
of a larger system, this curriculum will allow for a greater understanding
of how their actions are connected with the actions of their peers. My
goal also, is to incorporate a view based on interrelationships; one that
is made up of circles, rather than linear cause and effect chains, which
are frequently utilized by the customary Western ways of thinking.
