Self organizing systems exercise LO13323

Has anyone seen an exercise successfully used for demonstrating self
organizing systems?

My setting is a large organization in which people often feel as if they
can't really make a difference. I believe principles of self organization
can work here--giving people a way that they can make things happen
locally, create a groundswell of changed behavior on their own, and
perhaps see it spread over time across geographic and functional
boundaries. I have an opportunity coming up to lead a retreat in which we
could work on this, and I'm thinking that an experiential exercise would
be the most powerful way to stimulate participants to consider these
ideas.

Thanks in advance for sharing relevant experiences.
