There is a benefit to forced ranking of employees. It helps people
realize that life isn't fair and sometimes, no matter hard hard one tries,
things don't work out the way we'd like.

Taking my tongue out of my cheek, I agree with your takes on the practice.
I can hardly imagine a large organization where it would prove valid or
reliable.
