Dear Colleague

I am a member of this list for quite sometime now but this is the first
time I am initiating a correspondence.

I am doing a part-time PhD, and am also a senior lecturer at the School of
Information Systems at Kingston University, UK. My research is concerned
with paradigm shifts in two interdisciplinary areas i.e. the 'organisation
and management theory' and 'information system design theory' and the
implications of these theories for design of technology based information
systems.

At the UK Academy for Information Systems' (UKAIS) annual conference in
April 1998 one of the plenary speakers, Rob Wirszyck, Director of
Communications and Alliances UK, addressed the topic of "The skills
required to achieve a successful match" between the new generations of
organisations and the information systems needed to support them. During
his talk he put forward the idea that:

Industry is accepting and implementing the new Information Technology but,
THE PROBLEM LIES WITH ACADEMICS WHO ARE SLOW IN PROVIDING THE UNDERPINNING
THEORY for the new paradigm of Information Systems.

I am conducting a brief survey on the Internet to assess the extent to
which the above statement may be correct firstly for the UK universities
and then Universities world-wide. I would greatly appreciate if you could
complete a very brief questionnaire for me. I ASSURE you that it will not
take more than 5 minutes of your time to send me your response which will
be invaluable to me.

My questionnaire can be found at the following URL:

If you would like to receive the results of this survey please enter your
e-mail address on the questionnaire.

If you do not feel able to complete the questionnaire but know someone who
may be able to, please forward this e-mail to the person concerned. I
would also be very grateful if you could provide me with an electronic
mailing list of all the universities in your country who teach computer
science and information systems. In case you do not have such a mailing
list but know someone who may be able to assist me please forward this
e-mail to the person concerned.

Please do accept my sincere thanks for your time and effort.
