PEGASUS B09: Applying the Archetypes LO19216

I will preswent this concurrent session with my good friend and colleague,
Michael Goodman of Innovation Associates.

We'll demonstrate much of our recommended process for dealing with a
situation from a Systems Thinking viewpoint. And, then we'll guide the
audience in trying it out on something of current concern.

The process is documented in a series of articles I've written for
Pegasus' newsletter "The Systems Thinker"

The articles are:

"Six Steps to Thinking Systemically," The Systems Thinker, V6, No. 2,
March 1995 with Michael Goodman. Our recommended six step process.

"Going Deeper: Moving from Undestanding to Action," The Systems Thinker,
V6, No. 9, November 1995 with Michael Goodman. We found that people would
get stuck after drawing a good systems thinking diagram. We developed a
set of generative questions to help bridge the gap... Understanding alone
would, of course, be unsatisfying; we engage in systems thinking and
organizational learning in order to improve our world.

"Mental Models & Systems Thinking," The Systems Thinker, V6, No. 1,
February 1995. A simple but helpful idea, add "thought bubbles" as in
cartoons to systems thinking diagrams.

Reprints are available from Pegasus.

The Pegasus brochure says:

>This ever-popular session explores how to use systems archetypes-the
>"classic stories" of systems thinking-to diagnose organizational
>problems and dysfunctions. Learn about the structure of one archetype
>and how it plays out in a case example, and explore generative
>questions ("Going Deeper") that lead to effective interventions.
>Attendees also discover a process for addressing problems from a
>systemic viewpoint by working with a case example and developing their
>own cases in small groups.

For those who've attended our session at previous Pegasus conferences,
this is a minor update of what we've done the past couple of years.

If you're attending the conference and haven't see our show before, I hope
you'll join us.
