Replying to LO19261 --

Tom,

My first thought is that the story points out a possible relarionship
between isolation and effective learning. Not only did the Reverend talk
"to" people, he spoke "with" them so he would not have to speak "at" them.
His focus was on a topic of mutual concern (the impact of his lessons and
the state of the congregation and its individuals) in a way that provided
meaning to him and the congregation. Isolation isn't not being in the
same place at the same time (physical proximity), but a connection for
mutual interaction.

One incomplete area of the parable is the search for what areas are of
mutual meaning, but I believe the learning would be similar.

Thanks for the post.
