Hello all,
I'd like to speak up about the collab '98 conference. You can still get
involved! There is a week of it left and all of the past sessions are
still "up" for exploration. I'd like to encourage you all to engage.
I've been the collab '98 resident artist, and have had both the pleasure
(and the pressure) of coming up with Visual support for the keynoters as
well as many side discussions, the open space arena, the cafe and other
areas in the conference that I can get time and coherence to stick my feet
into...
My "toons" of course are NOT the point of the conference by any means, but
I think we've all enjoyed the additional benefit's of visual as well as
textual dialogue, and by setting the precident - putting up my own art,
others have been putting up some of theirs (which was my strong hope).
I can tell you that attempting to illustrate David Sibbet's Keynote (since
he's rather famous for his own graphical design work in the OD arena) was
a little bit intimidating... but I pulled it off with his approval, so I
personally have "grown" some as a result of this conference.
Be prepared however for a large drink from a fire hose. There is a lot
there, and since it's in the form of Dialogue, goes well beyond any
seminar or conference experience I've had to date, in that once the
keynoters present their material, the dialogue focuses it, elaborates,
uncovers new material... And something new, bigger and clearer is built.
The intent, I believe is for the participants to come home "owning" the
concepts and ideas in order to implement rather than merely being
"informed" and conversant.
So get involved! It's not too late. (can you tell I'm only just "mildly
excited" by this?
