Greetings dear Barry,
I felt very much the same here in South Africa in the late eighties. Our
country was going down the drain because of the pirates making their
fortune on the desolation of the people. My pessimism (depression) became
so acute that in 1992, as a result of a major destructive event forced
upon me, that i wanted to commit suicide. My dear wife saved me in the
nick of time.
Todaty i know what triggered my attempt at suicide. I wanted constructive
creativity to overtake destructive creativity. I could not take it that
the bad guys seemed to be many paces in front of the good guys. Today i
know that it is indeed the case. But the bad guys proceed on a treacherous
terrain on which they eventually will perish while the good guys, although
slowly, proceeds on solid ground. I also know that i have to learn what
sustains such solid ground -- and that took far more than one easy lesson.
So i want to encourage and beg you -- use your inner optimism to overcome
the external pessimism which the "world -outside-you" forces upon you.
Think about Bill Gordon. What would he have done should he have walked
your path? He would have seeked a solution to this seemingly inability of
humankind to avoid a major catastrophe which it is making.
With care and best wishes,
