Fred,

Your observed in...

Learning Org. Criteria, Tools, etc. LO29614, that...

> Doug's definition raises some questions. Feeding back the response from

> that are more or less effective. In turn, this could hinge on whether the
> perceptions of past behaviors (and its effects) are accurate, whether the

> in light of goals or results sought, and whether or not circumstances have
> changed in the interim....".

I respond in general, rather than to you in particular, Fred.

I have become increasingly pessimistic about humankind over the past
several years. In these times, with all the "feedback" available, with
media, for instance, who are seemingly on top of learning moments,
learning stories, learning events, there remains in my opinion a large and
growing gap between the meaningful, positive-outcome thinkers and doers,
most of whom are NOT in positions of political power, and those who
command and control populations.

At worst, the sheer numbers of homo sapiens strains our future
possibilities and hope. Let us say that the relative number of evil humans
-- those who practice evil for the sake of power or worse -- has remained
the same over the past millennium. The actual number has increased. That
is, more numbers of people than ever before with access to tools of evil,
be they media or physical weaponry, act.

The bell curve contains you and me, and at one extreme is a relatively
small group who are mentally and physically different in outlook. Some of
them are driven by evil. The actual number grows as human density on the
planet increases. Have the center -- have we -- "shaped future behaviors
that are more or less effective" for the organization of humankind on the
planet? Have we been able to do more than 'read' lessons from the past
which inform better understanding today?

Médecins sans Frontières; Mother Teresa; World Wildlife Federation;
Amnesty International; UNESCO; International Hospice; what are these in
the face of growing evil? Whose "accuracy" of vision of the past will
ascend?

I suppose that to pass the time for the next thirty years or so until my
death, I'll "think globally, act locally" like so many others on this
list. Just maybe there will among us rise a truly new concept of learning
based upon unforeseen technology which scares us into realizations the
likes of which have never previously been grasped.

The cold has arrived here where I live. Ponds freeze, and in them snow
squall wind leaves white shadows to the lee of ice-bound boulders. What is
the white light which makes these shadows so tell-tale in the heart?

Best regards,

Barry
