Doug,

I believe many regard 'quality management' as just 'another flavour of the
month'.

The 'flavour of the month usually comes in four colours' - quality,
safety, environment, security.

In any organisation these are the OPERATIONAL RISK areas.

It pays to have an integrated approach which appropriately manages these
areas- in short a management policy manual and procedures, and a regular
audit.

We have all heard about TQM and Plan, Do, Check, Act - I suggest the Act
part of the activity is the update and maintenance of the management
system documentation.

While 'Quality Management' might be regarded as a new fad, it is only part
of the picture, a change towards Integrated Risk Management, should have
major implications for loss control, and productivity improvement, with
benefits right across our whole economy.

Those who regard it as a 'new religeon', simply need a security blanket.

Best Regards,
Alan Cotterell
